It was about time that I added another board to the man cave and what better board to add than Marty’s 1955 skateboard.
After sourcing some old wood plank I set about trying to find some suitable 1950’s metal roller skates and whilst it was a difficult task I finally found some. Now these are not the exact same ones that were used in the film, but to purchase those would have set me back a silly amount of money which I was not willing to pay. After stripping them down and giving them a good clean but not removing to much history they were ready to be used.
I set about cutting the board and added the front lip and kick board section. Once this was completed I then measured the size of the skate that would be used and added the 4 platforms that would be used to mount the skates to. Everything was then glided , clamped and screws together before using a rotary tool to help age the wood. After a Quick rub down with with some 10 year old wood stain we were ready to add the skates.
As I had already cleaned the skates I then primed and painted the centre caps red to look like the movie version, Once dried I then used the rotary tool again to cut down the skates by removing the excess metal. The skates there then drilled to allow for screws to be added on the board.
The final step was to put it all together!
I am currently working on the upper section that was removed and will add more photos when this is completed
